Performances, Practices and Excuses
Performance Policy
As a member of the band, you are required to be present at all performances. Please see NAMS band calendar for performance dates. Performances are part of the instrumental curriculum and are considered as an extension of the classroom. (See grading policy.) NAMS football players and cheerleaders will be exempt from participating with the band at the football games. You will be considered as a participant in another capacity.
School Practice
Rehearsals are also a major part of your grade. All band members are expected to be present at their designated rehearsals. 7th and 8th grade band members will have two rehearsals before the Christmas parade. (Percussionists will have three rehearsals for the Christmas parade.) Conflicts with school sports practices may be worked out between the band director and coaches, but it is the responsibility of the players to make Ms. Jenkins aware of the conflict in advance. Unexcused absences from Festival Band rehearsals will result in removal from the NAMS Festival Band. Please schedule appointments around rehearsals.
Excuses
Any student who misses a rehearsal or performance should return to school with a written excuse signed by the parent or guardian stating the reason for the absence. Any student that knows before hand that he or she is going to miss a rehearsal or performance should clear it ahead of time with a written excuse to Ms. Jenkins stating the reason for the absence. Acceptable excuses for absence are: illness, death in the family, or special personal emergencies. Not having a ride is not considered to be an excused absence. Please try to schedule doctor and dentist appointments around rehearsals and performances.
