All band members will need a 1 inch three ring binder with a minimum of 12 sheet protector pages, a supply of notebook paper, and a pencil.
All band members are expected to have the proper supplies needed to play your instrument, i.e. 3 reeds (pair and a spare), cork grease, valve oil, slide oil, etc.
It is highly recommended that 6th and 7th grade band members, and 8th grade wind players purchase a year subscription to SmartMusic. Essential Elements 2000 Books 1 & 2, and the required etudes for 8th grade are all connected to SmartMusic. Go to SmartMusic link.


Musical Terms - All 7th and 8th grade band members will be expected to memorize the SCBDA list of junior required musical terms. Go to 2008 Junior Musical Terms on the SC Bandlink to find the list of musical terms.

Scales - All 7th and 8th grade band member will be expected to be able to write and perform the SCBDA seven junior required major scales and chromatic scale. Go to Junior Required Scales on the SC Bandlink to find the list of scales. Once you are linked to this site, you may print your list of required major scales and chromatic.

Rudiments - All 7th and 8th grade percussionists will be expected to be able to write and perform the SCBDA required rudiments as specified on the SC Bandlink. Go to Junior Required Rudiments on the SC Bandlink to find the list of rudiments.

Tuning - All 8th grade percussionists will be expected to be able to tune pitches on a set of two timpani as required on the SC Bandlink. Go to Junior Required Tunings on the SC Bandlink to find the list of intervals. Scroll to the bottom of the page to find the timpani tuning requirements.

Etudes - 7th and 8th grade band students are highly encouraged to learn the SCBDA 2009 Required Junior Etude. Learning this etude will not only improve your musical skills, it will enable you to be able to try out for the Aiken County, Region Two, and SC All-State.
